Powerful Questions to Check If Your Rituals Are Working for You

We all have rituals of some kind. These could be described as routine tasks or activities we do on a regular basis; more often than not, on autopilot. Showering, exercising, and drinking a morning coffee, are typical examples.

Some of your rituals occur by default, as they'd have been ingrained in you from an early age. For example, bed making, teeth brushing, and locking the front door at night. Possibly!

However, there'll be others you might've introduced in later life. Which I suspect, in most cases would've been incorporated in an effort to improve your lives in some way shape or form.

For example, a daily exercise schedule, self-care practice, or productivity routine, are each forms of rituals you may have introduced into your life to either improve yourself, or how you work.

But with time, what can happen if we're not careful, is that our rituals can become an obstacle to our wellbeing and progress, rather than an avenue towards growth and freedom. And with this, can come frustrations.

When this happens, it can be helpful stop and reflect on whether your rituals are either serving or hindering you. Continuing with rituals that no longer serve you will lead to further frustration and possibly more.

So, if you feel you could benefit from assessing the benefits of your current rituals, try setting aside time to ask yourself these two simple, yet powerful questions:

  1. How do I want to feel?
  2. Are my rituals contributing to the feelings I want?

In asking these two questions, you'll give yourself an opportunity to identify where your emotions may be affecting your focus, productivity, and progress. And this is because emotions correlate with performance.

Being honest about whether you're current feelings are close to what you want to feel, is important. Equally, without gauging where you are emotionally, you'll limit your chances of overall wellbeing and success.

Engaging with the process of honest self-evaluation, could be a significant turning point in how you structure rituals and routines into your daily, weekly, and monthly planning.
